State Works on Developing Jobs and Technology

llinois State Treasurer’s Office is preparing the final touches for the Illinois Growth and Innovation Fund. They will be making investments in technology funds that invest in businesses based in Illinois or with a significant Illinois workforce. The goal is two-fold: support emerging technology to create jobs in our state and earn investment returns for our state citizens.

Operation Hope Free Holiday Dinner At BJ's Market!

Operation Hope otreach event is happening again this year! WVON, Johnson Publishing Company, Terry Bishop, The Urban League, Andrea Zopp, State Senator Jacqueline Y. Collins (D-16), Faith Community of St. Sabina  and the owner of BJ's Market and Bakery are distributing dinners, to all that come to BJ's, on 79th Racine. Peoples Gas joined in the fun, to celebrate the 11th year of giving back to senior residents in the community, the Greater Auburn-Gresham Development Corporation (GADC) hosted it's fun and free  Breakfast-n-Blues event, at the Thurgood Marshall Chicago Public Library. Seniors always look forward the session that typically kicks off for seniors to celebrate the beginning of the fall season.

Perspectives Mentor Program Another Intergenerational Education Success

For several years, the Greater Auburn-Auburn Gresham Development Corporation, participates in the Pespectives Charter School (PCS) five-week internship program. This fall 2015, we were sent to young adult gems, to expose them to real world experiences, in the workforce. Bravo young ladies!

Something to Read Into, Auburn Gresham Unveils It's First Little Free Library!

The first of many Little Free Libraries, was unveiled at Westcott Elementary School, in the Chicago southside inner city community of Auburn Gresham. The project was brought to Greater Auburn-Gresham Development Coporation (GADC), during 2015 national literacy month (September), by the United Way Neighborhood Network, (of which GADC is one of their latest cohorts), on behalf of Northern Trust community affairs.

Housing group gets grant to buy, rehab and sell more than 200 homes

NHS aims to buy and renovate more than 200 homes in targeted neighborhoods, then sell them to local residents at market rates. The group hopes to help 180 to 240 low- to moderate-income residents become homeowners during the next several years. NHS plans to raise an additional $3.4 million for the effort, topping out the initiative at $5 million. NHS is still deciding which neighborhoods it will focus on, officials said, but the Chicago communities of Belmont-Cragin, Hermosa, Humboldt Park, Pilsen, Woodlawn, Chatham, Auburn Gresham, Brighton Park, Morgan Park and West Pullman have been targeted.

MacArthur Spins Off New Digital-Learning Nonprofit

The MacArthur foundation has spun off its work in digital media and education into a separate entity called Collective Shift, and provided the new nonprofit with $25 million in start-up cash.
