Greater Chatham Initiative Executive Director Position!

Position Summary: Under the direction and guidance of the Leadership Committee (LC), the Executive Director has overall strategic and operational responsibility for the Greater Chatham Initiative (GCI). The Executive Director will establish and achieve major goals and objectives in alignment with the Comprehensive Plan for Economic Growth and Neighborhood Vitality ; communicate regularly with the LC, Implementation Committees and Implementation Partners; fundraise and manage GCI's financial resources; execute administrative functions efficiently; and positively represent GCI to regulatory bodies, other agencies, community and civic organizations, donors, funders and supporters, and the general public.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Development and Management

  • Direct and oversee short- and long-term implementation of the GCI Plan
  • Collaborate with Implementation Committees and Implementation Partners to develop realistic, but aggressive, work plans, budgets and timetables for designing, launching and growing specific initiatives that advance implementation of the Plan's strategies
  • Develop, recommend for the LC's approval and track metrics to assess ongoing progress in achieving the Plan's vision for Greater Chatham

    Operations and Administration
  • Establish annual objectives and an operating plan that support the implementation of the GCI Plan and optimize partner capacity and funding resources
  • Ensure the appropriate protocols, systems and structures are in place to guide day-to-day operations, including staffing, equipment and other resource needs, and administrative plans, policies and procedures
  • Submit information, reports and records as requested or required by law to appropriate government officials or the LC

    Resource Management

  • Secure funding for initiatives developed, launched and operated by GCI's Implementation Partners from local, regional and national sources in the public, private and non-profit/philanthropic sectors
  • Develop and manage GCI's annual operating budget (approved by the LC)
    Ensure the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of all financial accounting and reporting

    Leadership and Communication

  • Act as the spokesperson for GCI
  • Engage regularly with the LC to provide appropriate and timely information for decision-making; organize and participate in periodic LC meetings to keep them informed and garner input and approval on GCI policies and activities
  • Manage and engage with each of the Implementation Committees and their respective co-chairs on a regular basis, to ensure that initiatives are being identified, designed and moved toward implementation
  • Engage with the Public Officials Committee to inform them of GCI activities, garner their support and coordinate and align on resource development
  • Develop and maintain community contacts, focusing on individuals, organizations and networks relevant to GCI's mission and vision
  • Maintain political awareness and connections relevant to achieving GCI's mission and vision
    As needed, surface potential candidates for membership in the LC and Implementation Committees, and surface potential Implementation Partners

QUALIFICATIONS

The Executive Director will be thoroughly committed to GCI's vision, and possess deep knowledge of the Greater Chatham area's history, institutional environment, assets and challenges. Residents of Greater Chatham are encouraged to apply.

Candidates with a variety of educational and professional experience may be qualified for the Executive Director position. Relevant qualifications could include a combination (or equivalent) of:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., public policy, economic development, urban planning, non-profit management, etc.)
  • Five or more years of executive-level experience in an administrative/management role
  • Knowledge and experience working in the fields of economic development, community/neighborhood development, housing, small business development, etc.

Successful candidates will demonstrate high integrity, superior leadership skills and deep experience in managing boards, finances, organizational operations, program development, performance measurement and a diverse array of external partner relationships. The Executive Director will possess a "start-up mentality" – entrepreneurial, flexible and innovative in his/her approach to shaping and growing a new organization in order to achieve GCI's goals. In addition to strengths in planning and management, the ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, thoughtful and timely decision-maker and effective communicator.
