Oglesby Elementary School and their fathers or father figures were invited to attend a Daddy-Daughter Dance sponsored by the School Staff, Oglesby Local School Council (LSC) and the held at Oglesby Elementary School, Februrary 26th. A great time was had by all!

Oak Street Health Serves as Warming Centers for the Elderly

On Wednesday, February 18th and Thursday, February 19th, from 9am to 5pm all seven Oak Street Health community centers in Portage Park, Edgewater, Bronzeville, Ashburn, Avalon Park, Berwyn and Blue Island will be open to all seniors as warming centers offering free coffee, hot chocolate, tea and entertainment for seniors. The Auburn Gresham FREE Tax Site provideS FREE tax help to Families with incomes less than $50,000 and Individuals with incomes less than $25,000. It starts, Wednesday, January 21st! Come early! Line forms at the GADC intake area, 7903 S. Racine. The DOORS OPEN at 5:30pm on Mondays and Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:00am. This FREE service is based on a first come, first served basis. Be sure to come earlier to hold your spot in line. DOORS close when we reach capacity and might close earlier than times posted.

Next month, "Chicago Public Library branches will begin lending Wi-Fi hotspots and devices through Internet to Go in the Brighton Park, Greater Grand Crossing and Douglass branches, officials said. Once tested, the program will expand to at least three more communities. Each pilot location will circulate about 100 hotspot devices and staff in-library experts to teach digital skills."

Civic Opportunities to Network Needs for Educational and Community Transformation (CONNECT), is a mentorship program designed to promote positive youth development in public schools. CONNECT pairs Illinois State University (ISU) student mentors with middle school students, and together the pair forms a relationship through weekly Skype sessions, in-person school visits, and a mentee-designed community service project.

University of Chicago's CommunityRX, community-based research projects worth over $7M have been working collaboratively to put a prescription in place to help transform South Side communities by 2015, with the assistance and addition of Community Health Information Specialists (CHIS), a newly created job added to community organization workforces, at the Greater Auburn-Gresham Development Corporation (GADC) and Centers for New Horizon (CNH). GADC was proud to welcome a local service provider to our site to learn more about the HealtheRX program and how to incorporate it into their business process.
