Middle Schoolers "Pasta for Pennies" Raises Funds And Awareness For Cancer

Perspective Middle Academy (PMA) student houses, participated in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's "Pasta for Pennies" coin drive for an 8 week period and raised awareness and funds for youth fighting cancer.

Hadiya Pendleton's Friend Honored for Shielding Friend From Gunfire

The Boy Scouts of America will award Eagle Scout Lawrence D. Sellers with the Honor Medal later this week. Sellers will be recognized for selflessly shielding a friend from gunfire in Chicago’s Harsh Park last year where he received non-life-threatening wounds. Sellers was shot in the leg during the attack that killed his King College Prep classmate, Hadiya Pendleton, who has become a national symbol of Chicago’s violence.

History of Auburn Gresham

The recent history of Auburn Gresham is somewhat similar to that of the areas that surround it: once predominantly Irish Catholic, the racial makeup of the neighborhood quickly changed in the the 1960s and 1970s when African Americans began moving into the area from surrounding communities.

Auburn Gresham Opens Door To Free Tax Site 2014

The Greater Auburn-Gresham Development Corporation (GADC) and the St. Sabina Employment Resource Center (ERC), continues the strong partnership with the Center for Econmic Development (CEP) and will open the door to the Free Tax Site, January 22, 2014. The free tax services start at the GADC intake area, 7903 S. Racine and will be offered Monday and Wednesday at 5:30 p.m and Saturday's at 10:00 a.m.
