Transit Oriented-Development Close to Reality

As part of the 2005 Auburn Gresham Quality of Life Plan, civic and community stakeholders stressed the importance of developing a transit center near the historic Winneconna Parkway.
This proposed strategy provides a framework for the development of the area to include new commercial uses, housing, open space and improved transportation connections. A centerpiece of the plan would be a new Metra commuter-rail station that could provide under-20-minute service to Union Station and outbound travel to the southwest suburbs and Joliet.
In March of 2010, the State of Illinois with the assistance of State Senator Jacqueline Collins (L-16) solicited Request for Proposals (RFPs) to seek a consultant to work with them and the Greater Auburn-Gresham Development Corporation (GADC) to create a transit-oriented development plan for the area around the proposed Auburn Park Metra Station. A focal point of this plan would be to prepare the necessary documentation to present to Metra, city officials and other stakeholders to build support for the new station.
As a result of the bid solicitations, Camiros, Ltd. was selected to work with GADC. Camiros, Ltd. is committed – through education, professional experience, and personal inclination – to planning communities that respond to the needs of their citizens and their builders.
