The weather didn't stop progress. The ceremony went on, inside The New Pisgah Baptist Church, 8130 S. Racine Avenue.
The 2013 Homeless Assessment Report (ARH) states homeless veterans accounted for on average 12 percent of all homeless adults. Lack of support networks, substandard living conditions in overcrowded housing or lack of permanent housing and lack of access to employment opportunities are the top causes of veteran homelessness. Reducing these barriers and constructing good quality homes for seniors and now veterans, is part the solid foundation The New Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church was built on.
The New Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church was founded on November 17, 1965. In 1973, the church moved to 8130 South Racine Ave. In 1977, New Pisgah Day Care Center was opened. Presently, New Pisgah have completed construction on a Day Care Center, two Senior Buildings, and a Construction Company where they focus on rehabbing for low income families. Ald. Howard Brookins' 21st ward includes all the New Pisgah developed housing complexes.
Because of New Pisgah's success in providing high quality affordable housing in in the Auburn Gresham Community, another 4 story, 54 unit single room occupancy housing for veterans, located at 8140 S. Racine, is definitely a welcome addition.
Veterans Day, November 11, 2014
On this rainy Veterans Day, November 11, 2014, as we honor veterans locally and across the nation, we also look forward to the completion of New Pisgah Church's construction project in Auburn Gresham, the "Veterans New Beginnings Residence," an affordable housing building for veterans. The community looks forward to the historic grand opening.
Today on Veterans Day, we honor, salute and thank all veterans, of all the armed forces, who served for our freedoms.
