Letter To Students: Back to School On September 2nd
Published: August 26, 2014
Dear Students,
Are you ready to get back to school? Classes begin on September 2, and I hope you are as excited as I am about the new year!
I offer a special welcome to the Class of 2027. You are the second group of CPS Kindergarteners to be learning and having fun all day in our Full-Day Kindergarten program.
To the Class of 2015 - your graduation day will be here before you know it! You are an impressive group, and I look forward to seeing all you will accomplish in your final year of high school.
To our high school sophomores - 82 percent of you are on track to graduate in 2017. I am proud of the strong start you have made, and want you to work hard and stay focused so that this prediction becomes a reality.
And to the thousands of you who will begin the school year in new STEM, IB and Early College programs - this is a chance for you to explore something new. Embrace the challenge and see where it takes you.
By the time you graduate, I want each of you ready to take on the world. That is why we have a Full School Day with plenty of time for every subject, including art, music, and PE. It's why we've filled your schools with cutting edge technology, and why we have you enrolled in Career and Technical Education programs that go beyond the basics to help you find and pursue your passions.
Everything you need for success, including your teachers, counselors and parents is at your fingertips. So please, use all of these resources to make this a great school year!
Remember that school begins on Tuesday, September 2, 2014. I will be visiting a few schools on the first day and I want to see you there! Everything you need to prepare, including bell times, medical forms, school supply lists and transportation information is available on this site. Any other questions can be answered by calling the Back-to-School Hotline at (773) 553-3223.
I wish you a happy and productive school year and look forward to seeing you on September 2!
Sincerely,
Barbara Byrd-Bennett
