THE STORY OF A SENIOR IN THE COMMUNITY
My name is Purscilla Roberts and I am 67 years old. I reside in the Auburn Gresham community. I have lived and raised my family in the Auburn Gresham community for over 42 years. I have been an independent responsible person and always shown love toward others in need. I have worked in the medical field for over 40 years.
Due to health reasons, I could no longer work. In 2013, I went to Greater Auburn-Gresham Development Corporation on 79th Street and spoke with Mrs. Robinson. She greeted me very lovingly. I asked if they had any positions available because I was looking for work. She said, “Not at this time.” I asked could I do some volunteer work. She said, “Yes.” She gave me an opportunity to put in an application for the Historic Chicago Bungalow Association. I received a refrigerator and an air conditioner. While I was a volunteer I also signed up for another program called Small Accessible Repairs for Seniors (SARFS).
I signed up to work with the Easter Seals Senior Community Service Employment Program (SESCP). "Easter Seals is committed to empowering low-income older workers to achieve economic independence and fully engage in the process of determining their own future, through participating in the SCSEP. Now I am working in the office that has helped me to enhance my ability and knowledge of working as an administrative assistant. I have received many blessings from my GOD, JEHOVAH.
