Michelle Mason Congratulates Perspectives-Calumet Middle School Graduates

On May 22nd, 2008, Perspectives-Calumet Middle School celebrated the graduation of its first 8th grade class. Michelle Mason, Integrated Services in Schools (ISS) program manager, extended her sincere goodbyes to the graduating students from the Georgia State University classroom. Each middle school class is named after a college to help familiarize students with higher education and to foster the middles school’s “College for Certain” learning environment.

Earlier in the school year Ms. Mason adopted the students of Georgia State University to learn about the educational experience at Perspectives-Calumet. The students charged her to attend their 30 minute DEAR period (Drop Everything and Read) and to share in their other classes throughout the day. During her time in the classroom Ms. Mason supported the instructor, Ms. Lindsey Mann, encouraged the students to practice A Disciplined Life, and coordinated several violence prevention workshops. She immediately bonded with the students and over the weeks built strong relationships with them. At graduation Ms. Mason shared with the students her desire to see each student excel academically and make it to their college graduation day.
