Peoples Gas Shows Blues Comes From Within!"

Celebrating its 11th year of giving back to senior residents in the community, the Greater Auburn-Gresham Development Corporation (GADC) hosted it's fun and free Breakfast-n-Blues event, at the Thurgood Marshall Chicago Public Library. Seniors always look forward the session that typically kicks off for seniors to celebrate the beginning of the fall season.
“I think GADC's enthusiasm for us “old folks” is just great!" one local senior said.
The event library was filled to capacity seniors who ate a delicious meal catered by a local business. The menu included hot scrambled eggs, freshly baked biscuits, smothered potatoes and turkey links. To top off this meal, GADC also provided water, orange juice, and hot coffee.
Accompanying the delicious meal, all guests were treated to the soulful blues sounds of Ray and his Blues Band As tradition would have it, Ray and his band jammed to some old blues classics with lyrics like: "My Last Two Dollars."
A few seniors were so filled with the spirit of the day, they led the GADC Executive Director, Carlos A. Nelson to a dance, as the band played!
This day would not have been possible without the partnership of the Thurgood Marshall Library chief librarian, Jan Brooks, the GADC staff and numerous community volunteers. Last but not least our key sponsors, Peoples Gas and Oak Street Health made this a very memorable day, for the seniors. The manager from Oak Street Health, even picked up some sticks and played the drums. When asked where he got all that soul, he said, "The Blues Comes From Within....it's just a good feeling to give it back."
“Thank you, thank you to our sponors. Our Seniors were delighted with . . . They joined in the songs and the room was filled with laughter – they loved it! . . . I have never seen such a reaction to any other activity. That is why we do this two times a year. It continues to be a huge success for us.
