New Communities Parent (NCP), Susana Vasquez, a long-term director of Local Initiatives Support Corporation/Chicago (LISC/Chicago) is preparing to give birth to her daughter in a nearby Chicagoland neighborhood. As an NCP, Susana plans to rejuvenate challenged communities with tearful moments, sleepless nights, and never ending hunger and thirst requisitions from baby girl Vasquez.
Each effort Susana and her husband Juan puts forth to raise their daughter, is led by a neighborhood-based lead agency that will now coordinate new birth programs among other local organizations and citywide support groups. These new birth programs give lead agencies several resources to support Susana and Juan. They include: two full-time staff positions (an NCP Descendant and Outreach Cuddler) and technical support for assembling baby furniture, toys, bottles, and changing diapers.

As an NCP, Susana will spend her first year undertaking a structured community planning process that leads to a quality-of-life plan, then move on to implementation. A structured planning process includes monitoring baby girl Vasquez’s timely bowel movements, anticipated regurgitation and new teeth development.
Additionally, Susana’s new responsibilities will include strengthening herself from within – through planning, organizing and human development of baby girl Vasquez. Her comprehensive duties are designed to help broaden opportunities for her daughter through better education, etc. Baby girl Vasquez will be better equipped to take advantage of larger market forces, attract new investment and enhance the overall quality of life because of her parents’ love and nurture of her.
